1st course
our new cutting board from costa rica- inlaid woody goodness
sourdough, smoked herring, arugula, lemon
main event: what's in the fridge frittata
roast veggies (we choose crimini mushroom, asparagus, potato, cauliflower, onion) in 400* oven for about 25 min until golden brown and potatoes are fork tender. veggies were tossed in olive oil, s&p and a bit of curry powder.
beat 6 eggs with 1 c. milk, 1/2 c. cheese (we did a aged parm and sharp cheddar mix), s&p and about 5 large shredded basil leaves. put roasted veggies in 8in oven safe, non-stick skillet.
pour egg mixture on top and cook at low heat for about 15 min. until just the top is slightly loose. put under broiler for aprox 2 min or until the top is golden and is no longer loose....don't get me started....
cool for about 4 min. use a spatula around the edge of the skillet to loosen. flip over on a plate and serve with some toast and/or green salad.
so damn good. this was the first frittata we've ever made and not the last. perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner...well anything in between.
*we used a donna hay recipe as a guide but took our own spin. all veggies came from our farm basket*

proper fish house
my hostess in london lives on the east side and wanted to share her favorite local fish house....and in her opinion, the best around. yeah you could go to a pub and get this classic meal served in newspaper but often the fish is dry or the chips are soggy. i have to agree with her, this place was on point.
mushy peas are a must and a typical side with the fish. some taste better than others and let me tell you, these mushy peas were delicious. loving that color!
the star of the show. check out how big that piece of fish is! skin on the bottom, white, flaky meat ready to greet you. magners cider was my bevy of choice to wash this down and a fine pick i must say.
i wish this place was my local. think i'm going to have to try and recreate this meal.
wa-la!

london calling
i'm leaving for the UK tomorrow evening...and in style. 1st class there and back. whaaat?! yep. my good friend works for united airlines and has invited me to join her on this adventure. if you work for the airline, not only do you fly for free but also sit in business or first class...ALWAYS! since i'm her companion, i get to relish in this perk. wow. she is married to an english man who also happens to be a sound engineer for imogen heap. he is on tour right now and will miss his father's 60th birthday in wales. i'll be taking his place as my friend's date.
we're flying into london and staying at their flat (yep apartments in the US and UK!!) until friday then heading over to wales for the big party. sunday back to london then home by tuesday. a somewhat quick jaunt over the pond but a trip packed with new adventures, food and FUN. i'll be documenting it all as you can imagine and the highlights will show up here later of course.
as for now, i'm tying up all loose ends with work and home as well as paring down what i'm bringing to wear. layers, the color black and boots will dominate the palate. see ya on the flip!

fresno culture club
i've been a fan of music for as long as i can remember. i guess when my mom was pregnant, she took some class where mothers would tap the beat of music being played on their bellies to try and instill rhythm in their unborn babies. hippy shit.
from there i grew up in a house with a sister 10 years older than me who was deep in the 80's. music, culture and the vibe of the times was instilled in my head early. cindy lauper was the first tape i owned. i played that baby over and over. my first 45 was we are the world...hot off the press.
i was a boy george groupie. i had a couple fan mags of his (i was 6) and thought he was beautiful. with the help of my sister, i transformed into him one halloween night long ago.
testing my mike
today is her 42'nd birthday and i love her more than ever. she's always been a cool older sister and i feel lucky to have her. she's taught me a lot about life and has kept me laughing the entire way.

nifty thrifty
these two babies caught my eye. they're signed and numbered by ??? and will be for sale on my etsy site soon.
bought this lp for the ring of fire song. turned out to be a pretty good version...
creepy bunch
it's my friend philly mike's birthday today and to celebrate, he's having a big lebowski bowl-a-thon tonight. thought the two above lp's would be something to keep him on the straight and narrow this last year of his 20's.
oh the sweet sweet tiger jungle scene. it even has a plug in the back and i'm assuming lights up to highlight the mastery of it all. over the bed perhaps to get the blood flowing? i kid.......
i passed up on this heavy duty metal/wood ottoman today and hope i don't regret it. it sits on a swivel base and has a very cool modern look. the cushion needs to be reupholstered which isn't cheap. i think if someone was willing to put in the effort, the return could be huge. $19.99 was too much for me today. sigh.....
off to my white russian....
