season's greetings

Strawberry Sorbet
(makes 6 servings)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups strawberries
  • juice from 1 large orange
  • juice from 1 medium lemon
Stir 2 cups water and sugar in heavy medium saucepan over high heat until sugar dissolves. Boil 5 minutes.

Puree strawberries, orange and lemon juice in blender until smooth. Add sugar syrup in batches to pureed strawberries in blender and blend on low. BE CAREFUL. Cover and refrigerate until cold, about 2 hours.

Process strawberry mixture in ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions or place mixture in shallow container and freeze, stirring every hour until set, about 6 hours. (Can be made 3 days ahead. Cover and freeze in airtight container. If sorbet is frozen solid, place in refrigerator for 15 minutes to soften.)

i bought a large clamshell of strawberries which i've been macking on every day. today i turned them into dessert. i'm a sorbet junkie and i'm telling you, this recipe is better than any i've ever had. the orange juice adds an amazing flavor.
